 Corporate Outplacement Services

Objective

To help displaced employees land "The Job of their Dreams" in as short a time frame as possible by significantly increasing their proficiency in the job search process.

Why do this? Corporate Perspective
Most Corporations try to do something in the way of outplacement assistance for their terminated employees today. Some of the reasons are the following:

     • Corporations feel it's the right thing to do. It's a way of saying “thank you” for all the loyal years of service

       provided by terminated employees.
     • It's good business. Employees who receive good solid professional assistance in this very difficult time are

likely to speak very highly of their former corporations. In addition, there may be a time when the Corporation

would like to reacquire the services of these people as the economy picks up.
     • It's a very cost effective way of achieving the two objectives above.

Why do this? Employee Perspective
The employees really need the help. Despite the progress that the economy has made since the dark days of 2008 - 2009, it is still a challenging task for an individual who has just been laid off. So challenging that, since 2007,  7.26 million people have dropped out of the job market!
It's still tough but there is good news also:

  • Key point: A person who is seeking to land a job and does all the work necessary to become a professional effective job seeker will not only find a job but also a career that leads on to bigger and better things.

What your former employees need to be successful is training in a whole new profession: Job Seeker. This requires identifying, learning and perfecting a whole new set of skills that will allow them to effectively compete in this challenging economic environment. It is in this environment that TAG for Productivity shines!

Some concerns with Corporate Outplacement

In recent years, corporate outplacement has become big business and, with this huge expansion, a number of problems have come to the surface. Here's a shocking fact: in the unemployment seminars I have conducted, a majority of the attendees have already gone through the corporate outplacement process. Why did they come to my seminars? Because they were not satisfied with the results from their outplacement experience. In my conversations with these people, I have heard the following concerns:

     • Standardized services designed to handle the maximum number of people, which often results in providing little

       value.
     • Standardized letters and resumes sent out on behalf of the client without the benefit of the client reviewing these

documents. In several cases, this process resulted in typos, misspellings, and a format with which the client

       was not happy.

     • “Assembly-line” handling of clients often resulting in less than optimal results.
     • Many of the major players in corporate out placement do not track the results of their work
.

But there is something more important --

The Biggest Problem with Conventional Outplacement

-- and where TAG is unique
It’s simple: THEY JUST AREN’T MOVING FAST ENOUGH!

In order to understand this, it's important to look at some of the salient points about today's unemployment picture:

The Solution: A Two Day Seminar / Workshop

TAG takes a totally different approach. We begin with a two-day seminar/workshop designed to lay out the 13 key aspects of the job search process. This is a combination of classroom style and workshop sessions where people actually put into practice the techniques we discuss. We ask each participant to bring her laptop, resume, LinkedIn Profile and anything else they have to help in the job search. They will "Learn by Doing". Some examples:

  • Identifying their key strengths

  • Building SARs ( Situation - Activity - Results) that show examples of where these strengths brought significant value to a corporation.

  • Ripping apart and revising their resume until it screams VALUE.

  • Etc.

Workshop Exit Level Behavior

We always state that our goal in the workshop is to at least double the job search effectiveness of every participant. Most often, we far exceed this target. When the participants leave the workshop, they should expect the following:

  • A clear understanding of their strengths.

  • A clear understanding of the value that they brought to their previous company and can bring to their future one.

  • Examples that can show the value that their strengths brought to a previous company.

  • An ability to crisply and professionally communicate this value both on paper and in an interview.

  • A resume that has been worked on and revised until it screams value.

  • Establishment of a professional effective contact plan design to increase both the quantity and the quality of interviews from the contacts.

  • An understanding of the job interview and extensive practice in mock interview sessions.

  • Identification of the key questions that the participant should be able to professionally answer in the interview process.

  • Control systems to keep their job search process on target and moving forward.

  • Techniques for dealing with the rudeness, delay, and silence that has become such an integral part of the job search process.

In short, the participant, in two days of extensive learning and practice, will have made the transition from an apprentice in the job search process to a journeyman.

It is then that we begin with the one-on-one sessions, designed to move the participant from journeyman to master. They are designed to fine-tune the basic skills that the candidates now have and to turn all of them from “job seeker” to “resource provider”

The Details

Here is the TAG approach:

     • On site meeting on the day of termination to describe our program in detail.
•Two eight hour on site workshop sessions designed to review all the major components of the job search

       process.
     • Assignment of a career counselor to each person. This person will remain with the client for the entire length of

       the job search.
     • Initial one-on-on sessions with each of the clients to determine:
o Their current overall expertise in the job search process.
o Areas where they feel they need the most help.
o Understanding of what their job objectives are.
o Creation of an individual plan of attack to allow them to meet their objectives.
     • Continued one-on-one sessions to significantly enhance the skill sets of the clients in the job search process.

These sessions build on the previous training and provide in depth coaching on such items as:
o Getting crystal clear on all the clients strengths, significant accomplishments and the value that they bring to

            a company.
o Crafting these strengths into clear value statements using the SARs format: Situation, Activity, Results.
o Practice delivering these SARs in a crisp business like fashion designed to make a positive impression
o Revising and fine tuning the Resume for impact.
o Developing a professional networking plan designed to get results.
o Practice interview sessions including videotaping and feedback.
     • In addition, we will have periodic workshop sessions either in person or via video conferencing to address

common areas such a resume writing, interviewing sessions, etc.
     • In short, the entire program is aimed at transforming the client in the job search from a hopeful amateur to a

       seasoned professional.

Feedback to the Corporation on Results

TAG believes that, as the folks that are “footing the bill”, the Corporation is entitled to extensive feedback on the results of the training and coaching. To this end, we provide regular reports including:
     • Initial assessment of the client’s proficiency in the job search process. This is a unique measurement

system aimed to provide a numerical ranking on each of the major aspects of the job search process as well

as a composite overall ranking. This will serve as a “base line” number and will be contrasted with the progress

being made as the coaching continues.

     • Regular reporting on those clients that have successfully found employment.
     • Feedback from the clients on the results of the training.

"But I already have an Outplacement Firm"

Most firms do  but here's a thought: Why not use TAG for the workshop session to "jump start" your employees in the job search process? It's a win - win situation for everyone:

  • Your displaced employees will immediately start moving forward in the job search - and they will be extremely grateful for the extra effort your corporation is making.

  • It will make the job of your existing Outplacement Firm much easier. They can spend their time "fine tuning" the search process instead of starting from scratch. They can even actively participate in the workshop sessions if you so desire.

There is much more to what we can do together that we would be happy to discuss in a face-to-face meeting.
